Dr. Dorothea Siems is a German journalist and the chief economist of the WELT Group. In addition to reporting and commenting on trends in the economy in WELT, Welt am Sonntag and Welt.de she moderates political discussions and is a frequently invited discussant in talkshows on TV.
She studied economics in Berlin where she received her doctorate in economics after completing her thesis on „Japan’ s economic strategies in China and ASEAN“. She further studied journalism at the Georg von Holtzbrinck School of Economic Journalism in Düsseldorf and Brussels.
After her graduation the weekly magazin „Wirtschaftswoche“ recruited her as a reporter on international economics. She joined the WELT Group in 1996 as an economic editor overseeing social an economic policies and finance. She received several awards, i.e. the Ludwig Erhard Price for economic publicism and the Friedrich August von Hayek Price.
