Mr. Fußwinkel works with BaFin since 2009. After dealing with questions relating to the regulatory perimeter of new, including cross-border, business and investment models, he has headed the "Financial Technology Innovations" strategy unit, which he helped to establish, since June 2017. In this function, he deals with the analysis and potential impact of innovative financial technologies and related business models on financial regulation and supervision. His current focus includes issues around crypto assets and related phenomena such as Decentralised Finance (DeFi). Among other things, he contributed to the regulation of crypto custody business and co-led the Council Working Group on the European Commission's regulatory proposal for Markets in Crypto-Assets ("MiCA") during the German Council Presidency.
