 Frank Pierschel As graduated Economist, Frank Pierschel started his professional work as a consultant in a small private consultancy in Berlin. He entered the German banking supervision in 1994, worked in line supervision for foreign and cooperative banks and in the anti-money laundering department. Since 2002 he has been with the international department, since 2009 in the position of BaFin’s Head of International Policy, Financial Stability and Regulation –Banking Supervision–. Frank Pierschel is responsible for coordinating BaFin’s presence in the Basel Committee on Banking Supervision (BCBS) and the European Banking Authority (EBA). He is member of the BCBS Policy Development Group, the Basel Consultative Group, the Task Force on Sovereign Exposures and the SSM Policy Coordinators Network. From 2013 to 2016 he co-chaired the BCBS Task Force on Standardised Approaches. He is an expert in banking supervisory policy issues, such as Core Principles, multilateral supervisory cooperation, specific home/host issues, Basel II, 2.5 and III implementation, the standardised approach for credit risk, restructuring and resolution and systemic relevance of institutions. In January 2018, he was appointed to BaFin’s coordinator on sustainable finance. In this function, he joined the Steering Committee and the Plenary of the high-level Network on Greening the Financial System. In May 2019, Frank Pierschel has become the Chief Sustainable Finance Officer of BaFin.
