Burkhard has 13 years of experience in international investment banking and 11 years as an entrepreneur. As CTO of NPL Markets he is responsible for the development of loan valuation, credit portfolio management and securitization solutions. He co-founded the Dutch Fintech, Open Source Investor Services, where he advised major US and European financial institutions on loan data quality, valuation and risk models. Previously, he was a Managing Director at Bank of America Merrill Lynch in London, responsible for arranging credit risk transfer and funding transactions for financial institutions in Europe. Burkhard started his career as a quantitative analyst for credit derivatives and synthetic risk transfer at Citibank.
At Merrill Lynch he was a principal investor in securitisation transactions and distressed debt portfolios and provided senior funding for the acquisition of non-performing loans. He has structured several award-winning first-time asset securitisations of project finance, aircraft and shipping loans.
Burkhard holds a PhD in Applied Mathematics and Theoretical Physics from the University of Cambridge, England. His academic interests include Bayesian statistics and self-learning risk models.
